When looking for luggage for a true dual sport motorcycle, several items are critical to making the proper decision. Secure mounting, adequate storage capacity, and minimal interference while riding are of upmost importance to dual sport riders.
Viking has come with a set of saddlebags to meet the needs of riders who like to log miles both on the road and in the woods. Viking’s Dirtman Medium Saddlebags offer a generous 213.5 cubic inches of storage space, even while maintaining a narrow width of 3.5 inches.
The Viking Dirtman Saddlebags are manufactured from heavy duty Cordura and feature quick release mounting straps, reflective piping, and an internal organizer. The bags are also rated as weather resistant and include the required straps for mounting.
Mounting the Viking bags onto a Kawasaki KLX250 was very straightforward and required no tools. The provided straps were sufficiently long and should facilitate all dual sport and adventure motorcycles. Once the bags are installed and clearances have been verified, the excess material can easily be trimmed to length. Regarding the installation on the KLX250 – I would note that there were a couple of places that the addition of a zip tie seemed to aid in keeping the mounting straps in the right place.
Loading up the bags for the first ride found adequate space for a tool roll and extra tube on the left side. The opposite side bag had ample space for a rain jacket, extra gloves, and snacks. The Viking bags did well on their maiden voyage, keeping all items securely in place. The bags did not interfere with my riding, regardless if I was in a sitting or standing position.
Overall, these bags provided some storage for a motorcycle that had little to start with, while at the same time, not intruding with the ride. Time will tell these hold up over the long haul, but I would give these a thumbs up. Look forward to trying out Viking Saddle Bags.
